With the current restrictions on working from home and limits on businesses being extended, many of us are re-evaluating our tech and security needs.
It is important that businesses create plans for online networks and security issues to make it possible to execute all business continuity plans. Creating protocols for allowing access to remote desktops, plans for printing confidential documents at home, and even granting admin rights to individuals so they can install software they need on their home computers.
Security Concerns
It is important during this time of extended work from home orders to ensure that employees are granted appropriate levels of admin rights to manage their software and computer needs. It is not possible to always have access to a central admin operator to approve all updates and installations that occur through a normal working day.
The workaround is to ensure that a clear process is laid out on how and when to provide admin rights so that employees can self-manage. When discussing issues such as home printers and confidential document printing at home additional concerns on how and when those documents should be printed must also be discussed.
WebEx and Zoom Accounts
Almost all meetings will be taking place online for the foreseeable future. Each business must take into account their unique needs and choose software that works best for them. With large scale organisations or businesses that host conferences or town halls, WebEx is a good option as it allows large numbers of people to follow along with speeches and presentations. For others with smaller more interactive meetings, platforms like Zoom, Skype, or Microsoft teams are a very good option.
NBN Capacity
Over the past months, the NBN and the Telcos have been shifting the demand on data to more residential areas. This is a move away from the past where large retail and business districts get priority on the data during peak business hours. For people who are experiencing slower speed or dropouts, it is important to contact the provider to ensure that the NBN is aware of where the system needs additional assistance. The more individuals working from home stay on top of this the better the situation will improve in the long term.
